My family has a strong musical lineage. I wanted to write a song that captured some memories of me and my Grandmother and represented the love we all have for collective musical moments.
One of the last things I can remember my Grandmother saying to me was, "keep on keeping on". She said she was proud of me and asked me to keep writing music. I completed the recording of this song just after she passed away. She never got to hear it, but I know her well enough to know she would have been proud. I also think she would have enjoyed the instrumentation and she would of giggled her little adorable laugh, tilted her head to the side and said "oh" when she heard my daughter and dad sing on the track for the first time.
Music will keep on keeping on long after I am gone. For now, my family, myself and anyone who cares to listen can enjoy this song in the present moment. And if you have the chance, be sure to have a family singalong. Nothing but pure joy will come from those moments.
lyrics
All The Little Rocks
I remember when we would go for a walk
Down by the train tracks
We’d pick up all the little rocks
And throw them down again
Just to see them crack
Then we’d pick them up again and we would
Look inside to see them shine
And how they shone for us.
I remember that special one we found
Where you kept half and I took the other home
I was sure it was worth
A million dollars
And you said you’d take it to the jewellers to find out
I was so disappointed
When they said
it was fools gold
Oh there you’re standing in the kitchen
Sealing jars of choke cherry jam
I can still taste the homemade peanut cookies
With the fork imprints in them
Oh you made the world sweeter for my cousins
And for me and my big sister
When I close my eyes I see us
Sitting all around
All of us at different ages
Someones singing out of key
Someones slapping spoons down on their knees
But we, we are all laughing
Yeah we are always laughing
And I, I can almost here us singing now
Yeah it’s funny how our memories work
Each of us holds something else preserved
Oh but when you are older and you’ve forgotten
I will tell you the stories over again
And when you are gone I will tell my children
And they’ll become a part of the stories too
Oh, I can see
Clear as day you and me walking
Walking by the train tracks
Picking up the rocks and throwing them back down
They cracked in half
And maybe after all
They were worth a million dollars
Cause that’s what our time was worth to us
I can see clear as day you and me, you and me by the train
Nothing shone as bright, nothing shone as bright as the laughs we had

"At a time where a physical embrace is at a premium and people globally are struggling to stay connected to one another, in

“Turner has a rich, gentle colour to her voice, fitting for the indie folk/ pop genre she calls home. It’s warm and thoughtful, apologetic and honest.”
